ICANdance Summer Dance Program for Special Needs

JULY 8-12 Brain Dance, Ballet, and Jazz Ages 5-9
9-10:30 Intellectual Disability
Ages 5-9: Children will be introduced to Brain Dance, ballet, and
jazz. Classes will utilize the importance of the basics of common
dance genres and exploration of movement through the use of
Ages 10 and up: Children will learn the basics of ballet, jazz, and
contemporary techniques. Building on foundational concepts of the
styles children will learn choreography within each style.
SUMMER CLASSES OVERVIEW
Summer classes provide a fun, extracurricular, low-impact
form of physical activity while improving motor skills,
confidence, and socialization for children and adolescents in
the summer months. The concepts of space, time, and energy
can provide a framework where the children can learn
through movement. Movement is an accessible environment
for children to explore and learn.
Classes are 1.5 hours long Monday-Friday.
STRUCTURE: warm-up, concept, rhythm, repetition of skills,
improvisation, and cool-down.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLLMENT: Students must be able
to independently use the restroom OR have someone
available to assist in toileting needs in order to participate
and have proper medical release if secondary conditions
exist in order to create a safe environment for all.
CURRICULUM: Using Laban’s movement fundamentals the
students will explore aspects though an individual and group
focus, elements of partnering, patterning, and rhythm.
DRESS CODE: Traditional dance attire (leotard, tights, ballet
shoes, etc.) OR clothing that is
