Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom Park

by Janet Jonus

Magic Kingdom is all dressed up for the Holiday Season. Join in the fun and festivities at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP) is the special way to celebrate the holidays at Walt Disney World Resort. With amazing decorations, delicious treats, festive entertainment, lots of rides, and SNOW on Main Street, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is an evening of festive FamilyFun.

All of Magic Kingdom is decorated for the Season but FamilyFunPittsburgh’s favorite decorations are right when you walk into the Park. A brightly lit Christmas Tree towers over Town Square and is a favorite spot for photographers. (The lines for Disney’s Photo Pass photographers in this area tend to be longest at the start and at the end of the Party.) All of the Shops on Main Street are decorated and snow falls! (OK it isn’t real snow, just a safe chemical snow but it is magical, especially for us northerners who are accustomed to snow during this time of year, and for southerners who never see real snow.) Cinderella’s Castle is transformed into an Ice Palace by Elsa. The entire Castle is covered in millions of tiny, white lights creating a breathtaking spectacle.

The Castle is the center of entertainment for the evening. Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, and Olaf visit the Magic Kingdom. Elsa transforms the Castle into the Ice Palace in a sparkling Castle of ice during a special holiday show. Mickey and his Friends entertain during Mickey’s Most Merriest Celebration on the stage in front of the Castle. All of your favorite Disney characters sing new and classic holiday songs with special effects and magical projections on the Castle itself. Mickey’s Once Upon a Time Christmas Parade marches down Main Street and past the Castle. Mickey, Minnie, and their friends are dressed in their Christmas finery. They are joined by gingerbread men, reindeer, and Santa and his elves. The Holiday Wishes Fireworks show bursts above and around the Castle. This spectacular fireworks display is set to holiday musical favorites.

Tomorrowland hosts many MVMCP activities at the Totally Tomorrowland Christmas. Buzz Lightyear, Mike, Sully, and Stitch headline a holiday musical show with an intergalactic flair. An A Cappella group sings favorite holiday songs when the Tomorrowland crew takes a break. Dance the night away at Club Tinsel inside Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café. This rocking dance party is fun for the entire family.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party also has a lot of delicious treats. Special treat stations around Magic Kingdom hand out free cookies, soft pretzels, hot cocoa, apple cider, and eggnog. You can eat your fill. There are special treats at many eateries in the Park too. Tony’s Most Merriest Town Square Party is a party within the party. Tony’s Town Square restaurant is hosting a Sweet and Savory buffet with delectable savory appetizers and sweet treats plus preferred seating during Mickey’s Once Upon a Time Christmas Parade. Tony’s Party is only available during select MVMCP and there is additional charge of $99.00 per person (plus the cost of the ticket to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, for more information about Tony’s Party, check here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/magic-kingdom/most-merriest-town-square-party/ ). Enjoy delicious desserts and preferred seating for the Holiday Wishes Fireworks show at two Dessert Parties- one at the Tomorrowland Terrace and the other at the Plaza Gardens. Both are special ticketed events during MVMCP and cost extra.

If all of this isn’t enough, stores and shops carry special, limited edition MVMCP merchandise available only during the Party.

MVMCP is a special, limited ticket event so the crowds are much lighter than during regular hours. The Party starts at 700PM. Everyone in the Park after 700PM must have an MVMCP bracelet that you can get at the Front Gate or in a special processing area near the Castle for those already in the Park. You must have a ticket for the MVMP to get your bracelet.

Party hours are 700PM through midnight. The crowds tend to thin out a lot after the Parade and Fireworks. Ride lines are also shorter during the Parade and Fireworks so if rides are your thing, and you don’t mind missing some really great entertainment, head for the rides while everyone else is enjoying the shows. (FamilyFunPittsburgh would never miss the Fireworks. Disney knows how to do fireworks and the shows during their seasonal parties are even more spectacular than their nightly shows.) Almost everyone heads to Main Street and Cinderella’s Castle to see the Parade so these areas are very crowded. For better viewing and smaller crowds, head over to Adventureland to see the Parade. If you don’t want to fight the crowds to see the Fireworks show, other good alternate viewing areas are Fantasyland behind the Castle and near the Haunted Mansion.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party costs between $95.00-125.00 per attendee ages 10 and up and $90-120 per child ages 3-9. Children under three are free. The cost is dependent on the day and date. Less expensive dates are on November weeknights. The tickets get more expensive the closer you get to Christmas. Every person must have a ticket to MVMCP.

The dates Dates for this year’s party are Nov. 8, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 25, 27, 29, 30 and Dec. 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21. For all of the details and to buy tickets, check here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/magic-kingdom/mickeys-very-merry-christmas-party/#
