Pick a Pumpkin – All of the Pumpkin Patches and Hayrides in Pittsburgh and the Surrounding Areas

by Janet Jonus

There are a few majors decisions every family must make this Fall. First, you have to pick out the perfect Halloween costume. Second, you have to pick out the perfect pumpkin!

FamilyFunPittsburgh loves heading out to the Pumpkin Patch to pick the perfect pumpkin. The crisp autumn air, the hayrides, the corn mazes, and the giant field of pumpkins stretching out before us is a FamilyFun tradition. FamilyFunSon will inevitably pick the biggest pumpkin. FamilyFunDaughter will look for one that is perfectly shaped. FamilyFunMom will have to lug them back to the hayride and then on to the car.

Tips: Always take large, sturdy bags to carry your pumpkin out of the field. Dress for the weather. Prepare to get dirty, farm fields are not paved, they have dirt, and it will get on you. Take water and snacks, and go to the bathroom before you head out into the fields. (Some places have Port-a-Pots, others do not.) Most of all, have FamilyFun!
