May is the month when spring (finally) comes to Pittsburgh. School is in, but outdoor activities begin to dominate our calendar. Here are the FamilyFunPittsburgh highlights for May 2018:
May 5th and 6th
Kennywood opens for its 120th Season. Expect to find all of your old favorites and a lot of construction! Kennywood Park has over 40 rides and attractions, 30 food stands, and countless games. With fourteen rides, Kiddieland is ready to welcome the youngest guests. New this year is Kennywood’s Thomas Town but be forewarned, Thomas Town will open in “midsummer 2018” so it is NOT open this weekend- or for the entire month of May. Old Economy Village in Ambridge PA hosts their Hands-on-History days also on May 5th and 6th . http://oldeconomyvillage.org/
The Pittsburgh Marathon is May 6th but events are run from May 4th through May 6th. http://www.thepittsburghmarathon.com/
Mother’s Day is May 13th!
While many Mother’s Day events are already sold out, The Gateway Clipper Fleet still has some room on their special Mother’s Day cruises. The Heinz History Center and the Pittsburgh Zoo celebrate mothers with special discounts and events all day.

May 17th – May 20th
The 32nd EQT Children’s Theater Festival takes over the Cultural District! Enjoy child-pleasing live theater throughout the Cutural District plus many free events!

May 19th and May 20th
Idlewild Park opens for the season! (Note: Soak Zone will not open until May 25th.) Idlewild Park opens with limited operations.

May 25th – May 27th
The Greater Pittsburgh Food Truck Festival takes over the Meadows Casino with over 50 food trucks, vendors, and entertainment. May 25th is Family Fun Night with music and fireworks. (Note: You do NOT have to enter the casino to attend.)
May 26th
Seven Springs hosts the Mud on the Mountain Race for Kids. Age specific heats and courses are set up for kids ages 8-9, 10-12, and 13 and up. Expect your kids to get MUDDY during this fun annual event.
