Cirque du Soleil returns to Pittsburgh to warm up a cold January with their incredible feats of athleticism and skill in OVO.

OVO explores the “world under our feet” in a playful, thrilling immersion into the world of insects. Cirque du Soleil, the theatrical acrobatic production company from Montreal Canada is bringing their latest show to the PPG Paints Arena January 23rd through the 26th for six shows.

OVO celebrates life, birth, and regeneration when an egg falls into the lives of the insects who live all around us. The egg affects all of the insects, as it represents the cycle of their own lives.

Costume designer Liz Vandal loved insects as a child. “When I was just a kid I put rocks down around the yard near the fruit trees,” she remembers. “And I lifted them regularly to watch the insects who had taken up residence underneath them. I petted caterpillars and let butterflies into the house. So when I learned that OVO was inspired by insects, I immediately knew that I was in a perfect position to pay tribute to this majestic world …”

OVO features fifty-two performing artists from fourteen countries in ten incredible acts. The Ants spend their day collecting, and playing with their food in a finely-tuned foot-juggling/Icarian act. (See the photo above.) Three fleas combine elements of athleticism and agility in a dance and balancing act. The Caterpillar cocoons herself in aerial silk as she transforms into the Butterfly. A Firefly spins four glowing diablos in the air. A Spider weaves a web of beauty and intrigue. The Scarabs fly through the air on the Russian Cradle. (See the photo below.)

The audience favorite Spider/Slackwire act is an astounding performance that defies gravity. (See the photo below.)

The show closes with twelve crickets jumping up, over, through, and around The Wall.

Cirque du Soleil will amaze you with an evening of entertainment for the entire family.
