Steelers Country is coming to Kennywood in 2019

Two Pittsburgh icons are teaming up. Kennywood Park and the Pittsburgh Steelers are joining forces to bring a record-breaking coaster and a new, exciting themed area to Kennywood in 2019.
Steelers Country is a brand-new area being developed jointly by Kennywood and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The area will have a new indoor/outdoor restaurant, The Steelers Experience, new Midway games, but the highlight is the new coaster, The Steel Curtain.
The Steel Curtain, a record-setting steel coaster, will tower over Kennywood’s skyline. At 220 feet tall, the Steel Curtain will thunder through Steelers Country. The coaster is 4,000 feet long and will reach speeds of up to 75 miles per hour. The two minute long ride will feature a North American-record setting nine inversions with a world-record setting inversion 197 feet above the ground. The Steel Curtain will be the tallest coaster in Pennsylvania. It is sure to be an adrenaline rush for all! (The height restriction will likely be on the taller side.)
“Being the first park to collaborate with a professional sports franchise on not only a themed area, but also a pulse-pounding, high-flying roller coaster is a great honor that fits in with Kennywood’s longstanding tradition of innovation,” said Kennywood General Manager Jerome Gibas in a Steelers press release announcing Steelers Country.
Steelers Country is more than the Steel Curtain. For the first time, a major sports franchise will become part of Kennywood.
“We are very excited about the partnership with Kennywood,” said Steelers Vice President of Sales and Marketing Ryan Huzjak in the press release. “Being able to connect the Pittsburgh Steelers with a family attraction like Kennywood is a natural fit for both organizations, and we are thrilled about the tradition and longstanding history the Steelers and Kennywood provide to families in and around the city of Pittsburgh.”
Steelers Country’s new restaurant, The End Zone Café and Tailgate Patio, has been designed to bring the excitement of game-day to Kennywood. The Café will serve game-day specialties. Guests can dine indoors in the themed restaurant or take their feast outside to the Tailgate Patio. This area recreates the experience of a Steelers pre-game tailgate.
The Steelers Experience is an indoor, interactive sports zone that takes the entire Steelers experience to a new level. The multi-level facility puts you in the middle of the action. Compete in the 2-minute drill, run through the Steelers entry tunnel, and play with the interactive “Terrible Tower”. Get the best times and see your name in lights!
The all-new Midway will have game-day inspired games of skill. This area also will have an interactive water play area, sure to be a hit with kids, and a photo zone.
Steelers Country is being built on the footprint of the Log Jammer and several nearby pavilions. The coaster towers over the new Midway. The Steelers Experience is being built on the site of the former picnic pavilions. The End Zone Café and Tailgate Patio are near the entrance to Steelers Country.
With the addition of Steelers Country and the opening of Thomas Town, Kennywood is seeing its largest transformation in its 120 year history.
Steelers Country will open in 2019. FamilyFunPittsburgh will keep you updated.
